For this project, a custom genetic machine learning algorithm was designed to research whether congressional district maps in the U.S. could be optimized on certain metrics using artificial intelligence. A web app was created to make the project interactive. The research project was a success, being able to substantially improve district maps on several metrics automatically using the algorithm. The project was entered into the PA Media & Design MontCo programming competition and won first place.
